We ran several trials analyzing machine learning-based approaches to improve communication between physicians and patients with cancer. These were some of the first randomized trials testing clinician- and patient-facing behavioral interventions targeted towards individuals at high-risk of adverse outcomes. We have shown large increases in rates of documented conversations and decreased end-of-life chemotherapy in these trials. We have now licensed our algorithm to several health systems and are expanding this work to a number of community oncology sites.
