A Physician and Practice Incentive Intervention to Increase Referrals to High-Value Settings

This review presents a targeted behavioral intervention designed to improve clinician referral patterns toward high-value care settings. By combining practice-level incentives, behavioral nudges, and data-informed outreach, the initiative successfully increased referrals to services associated with higher value, such as lower cost or better patient outcomes.

Conducted within a real-world clinical setting, the intervention offers a scalable approach to align physician behavior with value-based care principles. The results underscore the effectiveness of combining physician-focused financial incentives with supportive practice redesign to promote more cost-effective and patient-centered care.
