HACBlog: Staff Spotlight #1

Last month, the HACLab welcomed two new analysts to the team via the Health Economics Data Analyst Pool (HEDAP) at Penn LDI!  Anthony Girard is a Statistical Analyst interested in statistical and ML methods for public health research. He received a Master of Science in Biostatistics from Brown University. Yang Li is a Statistical Analyst interested in healthcare intervention strategies and medical services optimization. She graduated with a Master of Science in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

At the 2023 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting in Seattle, the HACLab was represented by two outstanding research coordinators Caleb Hearn and Jenna Steckel. Caleb gave a podium talk entitled, “Hospice Provider Perspectives on Providing Earlier Palliative Care for Patients with Serious Illness”. Jenna presented a poster about “Clinicians Perspectives on Virtual Palliative Care for Patients with Serious Illness”. Both presentations were well received by attendees prompting intellectually stimulating conversation. 

The HACLab was also well-represented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2023 Annual Meeting. Director Ravi B. Parikh gave an educational session on technologies to improve survivorship care among older adults with prostate cancer. In addition, Dr. Parikh, Xavier Orcutt, Sam Takvorian, Jeff Shevach, and Sam Mullangi also presented posters and poster discussions. Cancer care delivery and artificial intelligence were hot topics at the meeting and we spurred multiple collaborations.
